Recipient In The Petroleum Company Category: Exxon Mobil Canada Ltd.

Canada - ExxonMobil Canada is a leader in Canada's oil and gas industry and has played a role in the development of the Atlantic offshore oil and gas industry. In Newfoundland and Labrador, ExxonMobil Canada is the lead partner in the Hibernia project and has an interest in the Terra Nova project. In Nova Scotia, the company operates the Sable Project.

Since arriving in Newfoundland & Labrador at the beginning of the Hibernia project, ExxonMobil has been a strong community supporter.

Junior Achievement Newfoundland and Labrador has benefited from the support of ExxonMobil since 1994. The company's monetary and in-kind support for youth programs and the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame has exceeded $100,000. In addition to the financial contribution, company employees have dedicated in excess of 600 hours to the Junior Achievement cause. Nearly 100 volunteers have given of their time and expertise in educating 1000 grade nine students on the financial cost of independence and providing them the skills and leadership to chart their path to success. Christine Caines of Junior Achievement says the employees have been outstanding.

"Many have gone beyond the program curriculum to share their life challenges and successes and have been exceptional mentors for the students."

The Community Food Sharing Association is another organization which credits ExxonMobil with making a difference. Through internal company food drives, fundraisers and helping with Christmas hampers, they and their employees have made life a little easier for those in need. Eg Walters, Executive Director of the Community Food Sharing Association, says in the fall of 2001 two ExxonMobil employees requested a tour of the association's facilities to see first-hand what their needs might be. The seed was sown and ExxonMobil formed a committee to organize the first annual "Oil and Gas Industry Food Drive and Fundraiser". Over the past six years, the event has raised in excess of $375,000 and some 400,000 pounds of food. The success of the event is due in no small part to the countless volunteer hours contributed by ExxonMobil employees.

As Mr. Walters says, "Virtually since Hibernia started producing oil offshore, the less fortunate among us in Newfoundland and Labrador have benefited through the kind deeds of ExxonMobil."
